Glossary

District Based Support Team (DBST) |
Groups of professional staff of the Department of Education appointed at the district level whose job it is to promote inclusive education through training, curriculum delivery, distribution of resources, identifying and addressing barriers to learning. |

Foundation phase |
Grade R or Grade 0 to Grade 3 (ages 5 to 8) of the general education band. Also known as 'junior primary'. |

Full-service schools |
These are ordinary (mainstream) schools, which are specially equipped to address a full range of barriers to learning in an inclusive education setting. In addition to their ordinary (mainstream) learner population, full-service schools are also accessible to learners experiencing barriers to learning, for whom they provide necessary support. In the initial implementation stages, full-service schools are to be models of institutional change, which reflect effective inclusive cultures, policies and practices. |
