A new ‘Qualifications and Credit Framework’ is being developed by QCA and its partners. The aim is to allow learners to earn credit for their achievements and, if required, accumulate credit as they progress to new learning programmes. Following a consultation, QCA is proceeding with the testing and trialling phase of the proposed framework. The phase is divided into two stages. The first ran from February 2006 and comprised 27 projects. The second is running from February 2007 to July 2008, with an increased number of trials; these involve learners in ensuring that the framework is robustly tested. Decisions on developing the Qualifications and Credit Framework beyond this phase will be based on the outcomes of the tests and trials. 374
